Wine Travel – Trail of New York's Niagara Wine is a shining star
And all this travelogue destination is well known, we also had to tell you about a friendly city and terrible, frankly, is probably not a large number must see lists.
The State New York Scene new wine
Wine and wine have long been a part of upstate New York. New York is always in the top 10 states in terms growth of the grape and wine production, and has more than 100 wineries. Wine trails abound here, from Long Island to the beautiful Finger Lakes region, and many others. Most of the State Climate and topography are well suited to viticulture and wine production has flourished since the 1800s.
Western New York is a particularly ideal for lovers of wine, such as proximity to two of the Great Lakes create a microclimate perfect for wine grapes. The Niagara Wine Trail, just minutes from Niagara Falls and only 1 / 2 hour of Buffalo, has 12 wineries that offer a welcome speech in New York wine.
First Stop: Niagara Falls
As we entered the New York border Pennsylvania, we had our sights on an afternoon visit to Niagara Falls. First discovered by European settler Louis Hennepin in 1678, the world was beat a path here since. And falls always provides! The spectacular cascade of water is a jaw dropping and inspiring sight.
There are many places to see the Horseshoe Falls and American, the U.S. or Canadian side, but the best place to really feel the Falls is on board Maid of the Mist legend. Before boarding, you will receive a waxed bright blue rain, with hood. As the boat chugs toward the falls, it will rock and Bob as it churns on the turbulent waters. Ultimately, you are transported to the base of Horseshoe Falls. Here, the true power of the falls sits before you, with a roar deafening, so you can barely hear the captain's dramatic announcement: "This is … Niagara Falls. "
Of course, there many places to some of your money here, wax museum gift shops for helicopter rides. But no matter how you choose to experience of Niagara Falls, we have one bit of advice: Bring plenty of film!
Buffalo Living: wings and other great things
After drying out our thrilling Maid of the Mist experience, it was time for the short 20-minute ride to the city of Lake Erie port Buffalo. Reading the brochures we had collected beforehand, we were intrigued by the promise of historic architecture, entertainment fashion and shopping districts, and local specialties.
We checked into our hotel downtown, the Best Western Inn on practice Avenue, to settle in our 3 nights in the Buffalo-Niagara. With a specialty local food in particular on our mind, we set Buffalo for an institution, the world famous Anchor Bar.
The Anchor Bar is, of course, known as the origin of Buffalo wings. Since 1964, this jewel of the neighborhood was run on several styles of chicken wings, one more delicious than others. As good as the chicken wings are sure to try another specialty of Buffalo Beef on Weck. This is a sandwich roast into thin slices of beef served on a specialty roll, a Kimmelweck, which is essentially a round bun style sausage with onions and salt over the top. Washed down with a pitcher of Genesee Cream Ale always wonderful, it as close to heaven as you get in western New York! If all this is done you hungry, fear not, the Anchor Bar wings ship overnight while the countries.
Throughout these three days, both before and after visiting cellar, we came to experience and know Buffalo. This a proud town full of historic architecture and entertainment and shopping. It is also a city of four distinct seasons. Temperatures is moderated by Lake Erie, and we learned that the mercury never reached 100 in Buffalo. In winter, the area around Buffalo is a true paradise skiers. So whatever your looking for choice, there is something waiting for you in Buffalo. Niagara Wine Trail
The Niagara Wine Trail is very convenient to both Buffalo and Niagara Falls. From downtown Buffalo, is less than 1 / 2 hour for the main cluster of vineyards, located just west of the village Lockport, NY. Just take Route 425 north of Buffalo and follow signs to winery.
There are 12 wineries on the trail, of which 11 are full county Niagara. Even if you do not have the opportunity to visit the 12 that we did take time to enjoy the lovely walk drive from Buffalo Niagara Falls or to see one or two. It is the country's agriculture, a paradise for fruit growing. There is a sense of serenity here, with the material breezes of Lake Ontario just a few miles north.
The wineries here celebrate the passion of winemaking, and you be lucky if the wine route is host an event that you visit. You find everything, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Black, Riesling, dessert wines and fruit wines. Special Please note, we found that most of the wineries on this trail has a specialty unique style, with almost all from grapes and Fruit of the immediate area. Vizarra Vineyard: This is a great family destination, with two terraces overlooking the sunset and vine, and U-Pick orchards opportunities locally. The vineyard itself is part of Becker Farms, a well-known attraction in this area.
There is a complete selection of red wines, white wines and specialty fruit here. We appreciated the Rusty crisp Riesling and sweet Over Niagara cannon, from the Niagara grape common in the region.
Eveningside Vineyards: Eveningside is a farmer family (with beautiful red barn!) specializes in Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet Franc. We particularly recommend the 2007 Riesling, an excellent example of the style, and Crofton Blush, a semi sweet offer that is ideal for summer sipping.
Honeymoon Trail Winery: Have the perfect name for a winery in the Niagara Falls Honeymoon Trail offers a beautiful setting to enjoy their wines. Try the rich spicy Cabernet Franc and white lace, a blend of Riesling and Cayuga White. We also took home two bottles of Just Peachy, a crisp and fruity wine made with peaches New York grown.
Warm Lake Estate Pinot Black is the name of the game Hot Lake Estate. Wine Spectator praised consistently Pinot Black, he notes the best of its kind in New York. Their expansive vineyards, accommodation exclusively Pinot Black, is visible from the outside deck.
Arrowhead Spring Vineyard: This family farm wine has a seductive range of grapes in his vineyard, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Chardonnay, which do well in the Niagara region. The result is some of the most spectacular wine we enjoyed the trip.
We have liked the sweetness, butter Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2006 in particular. Another we have added to our collection is the Red Apogee, a charming blend of grape varieties Europeans who stands well on its own or with food.
Niagara Landing Wine Cellars: One of the most wineries in the region, Niagara Landing offers more than two dozen selections of wine and a gift shop home with works by local artists.
Go White House, a fruity blend Baco Black and red, one of the most complex berry and red spice that we had. Another value Wine Red Rooster here boasts a red drink mix smooth. Last, but instead try Blush Boxer, named after boxer pet with family, Sir Arthur. Also note, we found the prices here to be a good deal.
Spring Lake Winery: Vineyards Spring Lake Winery is part of the peaceful 78-hectare site, with an 8-hectare lake and numerous hiking trails. We enjoyed an invigorating hike 2 mile through the property before closing at the tasting room Tuscan-style, where we dived in and tried the Gewurztraminer, with its bouquet apricot and banana. If you visit, be sure to ask about their tours Wine Train, a cooperative effort between the cellar and museum railway premises.
Chiappone Wine Cellars: Located on a beautiful farm setting near the village of Newfane, Chiappone Wine Cellars has a long tradition of winemaking for three generations. We thought that whites were the stars here, particularly the morning star, a fruity but dry Riesling that has won numerous awards wines. Also try Moonglow, a clean and smooth Traminette.
Vineyards Schulze and Winery: A few steps from the shores of Lake Ontario, Schulze Vineyards and Winery is located on 120 acres of beautiful farmland. When you visit here, you will literally experience the fresh aroma of grapes and Lake Ontario at the same time.
In their vineyard plantings include Cabernet Sauvignon current, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Catawba, Vidal, Niagara and Riesling. With regard to wine, we were delighted to taste some very interesting sparkling wines here, before moving to their very nicely done New Cabernet Franc and Vidal Blanc, among others.
Run producer freedom: freedom Run Winery is a family owned and operated, with fragrant orchards surrounding the new tasting room. During our visit, 11 wines were available. We thought that the actual White Manor was superb, a blend of Cayuga White and Vidal Blanc, which makes a pleasant taste and slightly sweet. Also, we recommend the Cabernet Franc, with flavors of black cherry and blackberry large. Before leaving, be sure to see the various works of art glass and pottery, handmade by one of the owners of Freedom Run and available for sale through their website.
Leonard Oakes Estate Winery: This brand new producer is the only Niagara Wine Trail member outside of Niagara County, as it is right on Orleans County line, just 5 minutes Vizcarra Vineyards. The inauguration is the official beginning of July, but the wine tasting room and were ready to go when we visited a few weeks before.
Leonard Oakes Field wines are all produced from grapes grown on site, and are fun and easy to drink. Try Frontenac wonderfully complex, with notes of dark fruit such as blackberries and plums. On the lighter side, opt for a true taste of the region of White Oakes, a refreshing blend of Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc and Cayuga White.
The Cellar Marjim Manor: Finally, we would like to take you on the shores of Lake Ontario in the beautiful grounds and the establishment of The Cellar Marjim Manor. The location of the winery has an interesting history, serving at various times as Grainery, a house, and even a convent. Some even say that the place is haunted!
The wines, however, are very open and friendly. Fruit wines rule the day here, all products of large orchard owner. And it really is a spectacular location to enjoy the wine and relaxation with stunning views of Lake Ontario. We found several wines really unique here, with one of our favorites is Thursday afternoon at three o'clock, a mixture of Niagara grapes and peaches. Another was white Hundred Windows, easy drinking, fruity selection. Make sure you take your time here … creation and the reasons are superb.
We divided these visits cellar in a three-day visit to a maximum of four per day. The best part about this wine trail is the proximity of the vineyards … not only are they easily accessible by car from each other, but they are very close to Buffalo as well.
Leg New York trip was a great combination of wineries in rural farm and city attractions. In essence, the best of both worlds. We hope this issue awake your interest in this picturesque wine region and underestimated the production!
